LOCKDOWN REPORT

During lockdown we were unable to gain access to the Sarepta Clinic premises where we used to distribute soup to patients, especially those in the TB-Clinic, due to Covid-19 safety rules. We then started delivering food parcels to under-privileged families (on our database) which we were able to reach and to those who contacted us for assistance. Since April 2020 we have been travelling to areas to distribute warm soup and sandwiches.

During Level-5 and 4 of lockdown, we served soup on Tuesdays in Rosendal Delft, Thursdays in Sarepta and Kalkfontein in Kuilsriver and Saturdays in Stilwaney Bellville South. Since Level-3 and 2 of lockdown we distributed meals and sandwiches every Saturday morning in Stilwaney, Bellville South and Saturday afternoons in Kalkfontein,Kuilsriver . Combined, we distribute about 800 meals every Saturday in these areas. We support the Great Expectations Educare in Bellville South with their Feeding Program at the crèche and also support the Soup Kitchen of Mrs Jolene Bailey in Delft.

On the 1st August 2020, Toni Dammert Foundation celebrated its second anniversary. This special day was not celebrated with a party, but instead by serving the community with food parcels, sandwiches and soup.

We have been blessed with regular donations from St Vincent De Paul in Durbanville. With their help, we were able to assist needy families on our database with much needed food parcels. SVP also assisted with funds for 6 families in Sarepta who lost their homes during a fire on 15 October 2020.

About Us

The Toni Dammert foundation(TDF) was established in 2018 and is a non-profit company in Kuilsriver,Cape Town which main aim is to assist the under privileged community through handing out nutritional soup, bread and food parcels. The company was found in July 2018 by Jodene Josias-Malan and was named after the Late Toni Dammert who passed away on 30th May 2018 due to lung problems. Toni was survived by her mother (Jodene Josias),her father (Barry Dammert) and her younger brother (Liam Dammert).

Toni’s mother Jodene was a witness to her daughter’s illness for two months and has developed a greater understanding during this time for people who needed help and support during a sickbed. Jodene and her aunt Sarah Stuurman, who was her support during her child’s sickbed, first reached out to the patients at the Sarepta Community Clinic in Kuilsriver in July 2018. They offered and served soup and bread to the patients at the TB Clinic and the homeless in the area. At that stage they used their own funds as the company was not registered yet and the crowd was small and managable.

The Company Registration came through early December 2018 and by the start of January 2019 the Toni Dammert Foundation had gained two more volunteers and much bigger crowd. The team has been active non stop since then and lately provides soup and bread for about 120 people every week at the clinic. They also deliver food parcels to families in the Kalkfontein area who are in dire need for food. The company is now relying on monthly donations of soup ingredients to keep the pots full every week. The staff consist of family members of the Late Toni Dammert and volunteers. Meals are prepared and food parcels are packed at headquaters and transported to areas where there are poverty and hunger. The distribtution of meals and food parcels takes place every Saturday morning at 9am in Bellville South and Kuils River Sarepta.

Since Our Inception in July 2018

The year 2020 had many challenges especially with the arrival of Covid-19. We are witnessing individuals losing their jobs due to the pandemic and families trying to survive on zero income. Unemployment, hunger and crime are rising and people have lost all hope for a better future. Despite having a difficult financial year, our staff continued to deliver services to many underprivileged individuals.
